What is the longest city of Russia? Where are the most northern subtropics of the world situated? Where does the most northern tea of the world grow? Let’s look for the answer in Sochi.


Origin of the name: the first written mention of a word "Sochi" concerns 1641 and belongs to the Turkish military leader and traveler Evlii Chelebi who has named as "Sochi" a tribe living in mountains above Adler.


History: first people have moved to these places from Asia Minor through Colchis presumably about 400 thousand years ago.


Sochi aboriginals, ubiches, - the nationality, which number in total was about 50 000 persons. Since 1902 the territory was occupied gradually by Russian, bogs were drained, the earths were built up; the curative sources of Matsesta have been found out. However, the city became a real paradise garden only since 30th years of the last century. The Soviet scientists have thought up how completely to drain bogs which prevail in Sochi area: all the district has been set by Eucalyptus trees which extraordinary long roots have extended all moisture from soil, having transformed bogs into fertile ground.
